Matthew Higgs Curates New Themed Section

For Your Infotainment / Hudson and Feature Inc. pays tribute to a legendary American dealer and his gallery

Frieze New York’s first-ever themed section will be dedicated to the legacy of the late dealer Hudson (1950-2014) and his seminal New York and Chicago-based gallery Feature Inc.

From his first show of Richard Prince’s fashion photographs - opening in Chicago on April Fool’s Day, 1984, - Hudson’s program was fiercely independent, ignoring wider art trends, instead choosing to show the original, esoteric and the overlooked in an intimate and personable gallery space. Writing in the New York Times, Roberta Smith described him as ‘one of the most prescient, independent-minded and admired gallerists of his generation’.

Titled For Your Infotainment / Hudson and Feature Inc., the section at Frieze New York will feature artists who received their gallery debuts or had a long history at Feature Inc. in the 1980s and ‘90s, which includes such seminal figures as Tom of Finland, Raymond Pettibon, Tom Friedman and Takashi Murakami

Together these solo presentations will celebrate the continuing legacy of Hudson in the work of his artists; and represent the pioneering contribution of galleries, not only to their respective communities but to American art history.

The recently launched non-profit Feature Hudson Foundation (FHF) will also have a presence in the section.

For Your Infotainment / Hudson and Feature Inc. is curated by Matthew Higgs, Director and Chief Curator of White Columns, New York.

Further details will be announced soon.
