Various Small Fires’ ‘timely and conceptual’ presentation of The Harrisons recieves Stand Prize in the Focus section of Frieze London
The Frieze Art Fair Stand Prize: Focus section 2017 was awarded to Various Small Fires from Los Angeles (Stand H28) for their ‘timely and conceptual’ presentation of The Harrisons, pioneers of the eco-art movement.
Featuring a remake of an iconic site-specific installation by The Harrisons (Helen Mayer Harrison and Newton Harrison), the stand was described by thr judges as ‘rigorous’. ‘It stood out because it is both timely and conceptual, which is refreshing to see within an art fair context,’ the jury - comprising Richard Parry (Director, Glasgow International), Christopher Lew (Curator, The Whitney Museum) and Hanne Mugaas (Director Kunsthalle Stavanger) - added.
The jury also gave a special commendation to London-based Emalin (Stand H9), who made their debut in the Focus section with a solo presentation by Russian artist Evgeny Antufiev.
